Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Movie Review

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Movie Review

The expectation was sky-high from the movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The craziness to grab this at the earliest had no limits. It was the clash of the year, the most epic of all epic clashes. But alas! there was no justice in this. After spending 2 hours and 33 minutes with the 3D glasses ON, I just could not have been anymore disappointed.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Movie Review

A lot was said about the choice of Ben Affleck

playing Batman because a certain Christian Bale has made this character legendary. But believe me, he was not that bad, who was bad then? Director Zac Snyder and writers Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer. They hardly had any idea what they were trying to do. The entire 1st half was wasted just to build the plot for the clash, where was the tension, where was the intensity in that half, I had no idea. You won’t yawn or something but will definitely desire for at least something happening (well except for Henry Cavill i.e. our Superman doing some Superman-ish things). I still did not get why the 5 minutes long hallucinations or dreams (it was twice) of Batman was there. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is again brilliant and the pick of the stars but even his character was not etched out properly. Whether he’s a psychopath or just a failure trying to make his name, you’ll keep on guessing. Laurence Fishburne is just wasted, not sure why he even wanted to act in this movie. The feisty Amy Adams was more like a damsel in distress than a news reporter who always needed Superman for her rescue. Diane Lane was just there to do some household chores and get kidnapped to start the battle. Michael Shannon, or his naked dead body was also there. It was his and Lex’s blood that gave rise to the menacing monster Doomsday.

2nd half of Batman v Superman picks up the tempo, no doubt in that. The action scenes are just brilliant but that’s what you always expect from Hollywood superhero movies. Gal Gadot as Wonderwoman was there for how long, 10-15 minutes at max. Even her sensuality was not used to its full capacity. The ending (except for the last minute or so) looked more like the preludes to upcoming Batman movies. You’ll keep on guessing if this was a sequel to Superman or Batman franchise. Jason Momoa a.k.a Khal Drogo (of Game of Thrones) a.k.a Aquaman was there as a blink and you miss character and the one (Ezra Miller) shown as The Flash, for God’s sake, please don’t force us to endure more torture.

Special mention is Hans Zimmer for his music in Batman v Superman.

Go, watch the movie but don’t have high hopes. At max, 2.5 out of 5 and I feel myself so lenient.

P.S.: the main culprit though is a certain Christopher Nolan. He had raised the bar so high. He’s the executive producer of this one also but his creativity and thinking was hugely lacking.
