Beautiful Existence – The Woman who Married Herself
Meet this 42-year-old US mother named Desiree Longabaughm who changed her name to Beautiful Existence and then married herself in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. She spent “between $6,000 and $7,000” (£4,200-£4,900) on her wedding in which she married herself. This ceremony took place besides the Eiffel Tower just surrounded by three friends. The vows she recited were no regular wedding vows, she recited some special vows that she had written to herself and to make the wedding legal, she hired an officiant who oversaw the wedding ceremony via Skype. She wasn’t able to find an officiant in France. Beautiful Existence plans to get a tattoo on her ring finger as part of the celebrations, she thinks tattoo on her ring finger is better than a normal ring.
Beautiful Existence celebrated her first anniversary in June 2016 and she is urging others to follow in her footsteps. Yes, she strongly believes that everyone should follow her lead. She says,
‘It allows you to drop that pressure of having to have somebody else with you in order to be successful,’ she said. ‘I’d recommend it as much as I’d recommend being a parent, because the level of love you’ll feel is something you can’t describe until you do it.’
Beautiful Existence who currently works in social media and marketing and lives in Seattle, US, is a mother-of-two sons – Edge, 16 and Epic, six. She was previously married for almost ten years, yes she was in a relationship and got divorced after 10 years of married life. She met a new partner, but that relationship didn’t make it’s way to marriage. She decided to see the help of social media and Internet and even spoke to other women who had done it. She completed the formalities to marry herself on June 10, 2015. she further said that,
“After years of exploring different theories on how to understand myself, self-marriage felt right, The current norms around marriage and long-term relationships just don’t fit in with and honor who I am as a person”
Beautiful Existence says that,‘What we need to realize is that we all already have somebody – we have ourselves.’ Which is quite powerful.
