Bio Diesel from Used Cooking Oils a New Venture by NMAMIT
Bio diesel can be obtained from waste vegetable oils. This is a good remedy for the growing fuel crisis. Due to the increase in population the natural resources are depleting at a rapid rate. The idea of producing #BioDiesel from the seeds of plants is quite common. Bio diesel from waste vegetable oil is a new initiative. The bio diesel can be used to run diesel automotive engines.
The initiative of producing bio diesel from waste vegetable oil is taken by NMAM Institute of Technology – NMAMIT in Karnataka. By this venture they are using the principle of recycling. Actually vegetable oil when reused is very harmful to health. The NMAMIT delegates are collecting the waste cooking oils from the hotels and it is being converted into #BioDiesel. NMAMIT keeps a barrel at every hotel so that the hotel authorities will be able to dispose the waste oil every day without any delay. This initiative very well supports the campaign Clean India Green India.
C.Vaman Rao, head of the department of biotechnology engineering and chief project coordinator, BIDC, Nitte, said that some places provide the barrels without any charge while some charge them for rates ranging from Rs. 25 to 30 per liter.
Bio diesel can be produced from straight vegetable oil, animal fats/tallow & used vegetable oil. There are three basic steps followed in bio diesel production from oils & fats: base catalyzed transesterification of the oil, direct acid catalyzed transesterification of the oil conversion of the oil to its fatty acids & then to bio diesel.
The advantages of #BioDiesel includes it is a renewable source of energy, emits less green house gases, economic, biodegradable and non toxic, reduced foreign oil dependency, and it produces less toxic pollutants.
Bio diesel will solve the problems faced due to shortage of petrodiesels and towering prices. Thus biofuels stand for a striking and sustainable substitute to fossil fuels. It seems to be the idyllic key to the problem of our diminishing energy supply and the vital question of global climate change.
