Edible Cutlery to Fight Plastic Hazards – Invented by an Indian

Edible cutlery invented by an Indian from Hyderabad. India is the largest consumer of disposable plastic cutlery. As the continuous usage of plastic causes serious health hazards, a Hyderabad man invented edible cutlery that act as a good alternative to the non-biodegradable plastic cutlery.

The edible cutlery is the result of the strive taken by Narayana Peesapaty from Hyderabad who has been working on Bakey’s, a company in Hyderabad which focuses on the replacement of plastic cutlery with edible ones. The edible cutlery is named so because it can be eaten after use. #EdibleCutlery is made from millet, rice and wheat.

As you know plastic is a non-biodegradable toxic material, which is very harmful to our body and it is cancerous too. In order to safe guard his fellow beings from the harmful effects of plastic, Narayana came up with his innovative idea of making a bio degradable #ediblecutlery. Edible cutlery if not eaten after use, will dissolve completely when thrown on to the environment.

Edible cutlery includes spoons, sporks, forks and chopsticks that will not affected by low and high temperatures. The cutlery is available in three flavors – plain, sweet and spicy. Thus Bakey’s edible spoon, forks, sporks, and even chopsticks, extend the convenience with more benefits in its taste, nutrition and in its three years shelf life. The main advantage is that it is not disposable. By virtue of his innovation Narayana is able to spread the awareness of saying no to plastics.

“Sale of plastic cutlery, growing at a rate of about 30 per cent, is generating significant non-biodegradable waste and contributing to overflowing landfills. #EdibleCutlery is the only solution that provides the same convenience of disposable forks, spoons and chopsticks,” says Narayana Peesapaty, managing director of the Hyderabad-based startup BK Environmental Innovations Private Limited started on 2010. The Bakey’s will turn out to be a women enterprise as it is going to be taken over by his wife.
