Indian Celebs Tweet In Unison About Reliance Jio

In a mysterious (please understand the sarcasm) phenomenon that took place on the night of 27th December, 2015, a whole host of Indian celebrities felt the urge to flood Twitter with tweets glorifying Reliance’s latest venture, Jio. According to Wikipedia, ‘Reliance Jio is an upcoming provider of mobile telephony, broadband services, and digital services in India. Formerly known as Infotel Broadband Services Limited, Reliance Jio will provide 4G services on a pan-India level using LTE technology.’ All the tweets contained praises for Jio, as well as celebratory words about the ‘beginning of Digital India’. The hashtags #CelebratingJio and #DigitalIndia were also splashed around these posts. Some posts were even identical! Have a look :

Shah Rukh Khan, the King himself, put up a picture with Mukesh Ambani, the founder of Reliance Jio.

Even the Big B mentioned it!

A whole host of other superstars, too tweeted identically, sparking speculation that this is all just a marketing trick by Reliance. This photo from Pinstorm is proof of that :

Reliance Jio
Tweets by several Indian celebrities about Reliance Jio and Digital India, all on the night of 27th December.

There has been a lot of buzz all over social media about this, with many saying that the celebrities who tweeted about this were given some sort of ‘incentive’ to do it, and that it is all a part of Reliance’s marketing strategy with their new venture, Jio. It’s either that, or all these celebrities have the same social media manager! Well, whatever be the reason, I’m sure this isn’t the sort of publicity that Mukesh Ambani would be looking for after the launch of a big, new venture. More people know about the mass tweeting than about what Reliance Jio actually is! Let’s hope, for Reliance’s sake, that things do eventually fall in place.
