Kerala Likely To Sell Liquor Online?
Yes, that’s right, ahead of Onam, the Kerala State Cooperative Consumers Federation (Consumerfed) is set to kick-start the sale of liquor online. Keralites could soon order their liquor online or over the phone at their own comforts. What could be the reason behind this sudden initiative? Is this an attempt to reduce queues outside the bars and liquor shops or is this for people who are embarrassed about being seen outside liquor shops? Whatever maybe the reason, this initiative is sure going to put some smile on many faces. Consumerfed Federation chairman M Mehboob, told reporters that “Consumerfed is planning to launch online liquor sales during Onam. A final decision is expected in three days time,”
Got no internet access? Well, you can order your bottles over phone too. The online payment portal launch is not ready yet so customers will be required to pay in cash. Every one who book online or via phone will get a token number, which they need to present to collect the liquor and also to make the payment.
M Mehboob further said that “One can place orders and make the payment online but there won’t be any home delivery. The order can be collected from a special counter at their nearest consumer fed outlet.”
All brands of liquor, including the premium ones, will be available online and can be collected from special counters. However it not yet passed, it would be implemented only after certain discussions and after getting clearance from the state government. This sure looks like a good move for people who hate standing in very long queues outside the bars and liquor shops.
