Meet the IIT Professor Who Sacrificed His Luxurious Life
What would you do, if you earn a degree in engineering from IIT Delhi, a Masters degree, and a PhD from Houston? You would find yourself a comfortable job that pays a lot, won’t you? That’s what Alok did too, he worked as a professor in IIT Delhi in the 1980s. During his time there he shaped and polished several smart students whose popularity have sky rocketed. One such student of Alok Sagar is, ex-RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan. Who would leave such a cushy job and comfortable life? No one, right? Yes, no one but Alok, he left his professor’s position and started working for the betterment of remote tribes in the Betul and Hoshangabad districts in Madhya Pradesh.
For the past 32 years,he’s been serving the tribal people living there. He is helping save the environment by planting more than 50,000 trees in the region and spends his whole day by working for the welfare of tribals.
Alok maintained a low profile among the tribes, one could spot him riding his old bicycle. But his cover was blowed when the Betul administration decided to track his background. It was then that Alok revealed his true identity and qualifications, which were later verified to be true. Reports Patrika.
Anurag Modi, an activist said, “Unlike the baseless fight over degrees of politicians, Sagar has set an example of being a true social worker,”.
While speaking to Hindustan Times, Alok said, “In India, people are facing so many problems, but people are busy proving their intelligence by showing their degrees rather than serving people”.
The story of Alok is truly inspiring and motivating. All he want to do is is to, work for the upliftment of the people of the tribal village by working at the grassroots level.
