Minor Raped By Father & Beaten Up as Punishment By Panchayat
Minor Raped By Father, this isn’t the first time this sort of atrocities finding it’s way to the media. But this time, it is quite different. Want to know why? It’s different because a minor girl was raped by her very own father and the very same girl was physically beaten up as ‘punishment’ by Panchayat in satara and the reason for this punishment is not resisting her father’s attempts. Yes, you read that right, she was assaulted for not speaking up against the crime committed on her. We want to end violence and social evil against women, but is it really possible? When will we be free of free of violence against women? Social injustice against women needs to stop, will it stop for real? How long will it take for beasts filled with lust to realize that rape is no longer a trophy of war.
This mind-numbing atrocities against a minor took place at Pachwad village of Satara district
The minor raped belongs to the Gopal community, a nomadic tribe, in the Pachwad village of Satara district in Maharashtra. Her mother had passed away a year ago and she have been living with her father ever since. As mentioned in The Hindu, “The ‘panchayat’ also decided to boycott them and levied a fine of Rs. 5,000 on the man and Rs. 3,000 on the daughter”.
This incident found it ways to the outside world by means of a video clip of the punishment which shows the minor being beaten up repeatedly and mercilessly. This video that went viral was recorded by a local activist, Sachin Bhise. Remember we mentioned, “Maharashtra is well known as the first State in the country that drafted a law proscribing social boycott of individuals or families by caste panchayats”? Well, the panchayat decided to boycott both the victim and the culprit.
Hamid Dabholkar of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti (MANS) told The Hindu, “Ironically, the incident occurred a stone’s throw from the Pune-Satara National Highway and in full public glare. It illustrates the stranglehold of the caste panchayats across the State,”. Mr. Dabholkar further said that the MANS had demanded that the Bill urgently include a total ban on caste panchayats.
The rapist is locked up under IPC and POCSO and the one who punished the girl vigorously had been identified and is currently locked up under IPC sections. Every woman has the right to be safe from violence in all its forms. But, when? When will we able to eliminate all these Social Injustice and Discrimination Against Women?
