Prof. Edward Kujur – This Rickshaw Puller from Ranchi is NOT an Ordinary Man

Prof. Edward Kujur – This Rickshaw Puller from Ranchi is NOT an Ordinary Man.

We often hear people saying that google has an answer to everything however this time even google was not able to answer my searches about Edward Kujru, so I decided to write about him. People across the globe should know that this Rickshaw Puller from Ranchi is not an Ordinary Man, his name is Prof. Edward Kujur who use to teach in J N College Dhurwa, Ranchi, India. Continue reading to know what happened 20 years back with him.

Prof. Edward Kujur - This Rickshaw Puller from Ranchi is a NO Ordinary Man - This Rickshaw Puller from Ranchi is a NO Ordinary Man
Prof. Edward Kujur with his wife and Ratan Tirkey.

About 20 years back he was a professor by profession. Prof. Edward Kujur use to give lectures on one of the Tribal Language Kurukh (Oraon) spoken by nearly two million Oraon and Kisan tribal origins of Odisha and surrounding areas of India (Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal). After couple of years the management of J N College decided and removed Prof. Kujru from the position of lecturer stating that his post was not a sanctioned one and eventually this professor lost his job. Kurukh language has dravidian phonology and it is our bad fate that this language is among the endangered languages of India.

The irony is such that due to an unaccountable Government this professor was forced to give up his passion of teaching and since last 20 years he can be seen pulling Rickshaw on roads of Ranchi, Jharkhand. His earning are not much and he barely manages to earn his daily bread and butter to take care of his family.

Ratan Tirkey pass-out from St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, now a news reporter and social worker from Ranchi wrote about the story of Prof. Edward Kujur in Prabhat Khabar which lead to a major media out burst for sometime. As per him many media houses joined hands together for this cause and raised this issue to the Governor as well as to the Government. Mr. Ratan Tirkey even met the Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University and the Governor along with Professor Edward Kujur however all his efforts went to vain as they were given deaf ears.

Once a Professor by profession and now a Rikshaw Puller – Prof. Edward Kujur can be seen taking passengers to their destinations in the roads of Ranchi, it’s a very shameful, pitiful and stressful situation in which our Govt. bodies have put such people. In this picture you can see Prof. Edward Kujru pulling rikshaw and her wife sitting at back and the reporter Ratan Tirkey.

In his facebook post Ratan Tirkey says, “Kya Ap Is Rickshaw Puller ko jante hai???
Chalye mai batata hu. Ap hai Tribal Language Kudukh (Oraon) Bhasa ke Prof. Edward Kujur. JN College Dhurwa me an se 20 saal pahle inko Kudukh Language ki bhasa Lecturer ke pad me rakha gaya. Kuch Saal ke Baad inhe hata diya gaya. Ye kahte hue ki Kudukh bhasa ka sanction Post nahi hai. Tab se lekar aj tak ye Prof. Edward Kujur Rickshaw khich khich kar apne Pariwar ka pet bhar raha.

Maine sabse pahle iski Khabar Prabhat Khabar me inki Dardnaak story prakasit kiya tha. Baad me subhi Media Sathio ne jamkar Sarkar..Governer ki Alochna ki..mai khud Prof Sahab ko lekar VC se mila. Governer ko bataya..lekin kuch nahi huwa. Milta to hu kabhi kabhaar taste me…Aj phir mil gaye. ..hath hilaya..mai apne ap ko rok nahi paya. Dekha to unki patni sath thi. Bus Milne chala gaya. Ap bhi mil sakte hai. Saral aur milansaar hai.. Johar.”

It’s really shameful and sad to see a teacher suffering and leading a life of misery that too due to the lack of interest of Government bodies. Teachers are suppose to educate the future of our country and not pull a rickshaw. What happened with Prof. Edward Kujur is very unfortunate.

Share this post with as many people as you can so that it reaches the ears of the competent Government authorities to take corrective measures.
