Shocking Truth : The 13th Monthly Salary That You Keep Missing Out Every Year
What is a bonus? Initially, the concept of a salary was that it is to be given on a weekly basis to workers in India. But when the British started ruling India, they came up with concept of a monthly salary. Therefore, if we consider 4 weeks in a month, 13 salaries should be distributed, whereas by the monthly system, they were giving only 12 in a year. So what happened to the 13th monthly salary?
In later days, people realised it that it is a loss to them, and that they were losing out on the 13th monthly salary. There were many rallies in opposition of this in Maharashtra between 1930 and 1940. To come up with a solution to this problem, the British had a discussion with their leaders about how to distribute this 13th Salary and decided unanimously that as per Indian traditions, Diwali is the biggest festival of the year and so, they will distribute this 13th Salary during Diwali, which is today known as Diwali Bonus. This was implemented from 30th June, 1940.
