Sri Lanka To Host Highly Anticipated India vs Pakistan Series In December
Sri Lanka is likely to host the upcoming high-voltage cricket series between eternal rivals India and Pakistan. This will be confirmed through an official announcement on November 27th, 2015. After the BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) stated clearly that that they would not play in the United Arab Emirates, and the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) refused to tour India, Sri Lanka was the best neutral option.
BCCI And ICC head Shashank Manohar met with PCB President Shaharyar Khan and senior official Najam Sethi in Dubai, in the presence of ECB (England Cricket Board)’s Giles Clarke, to finalise the proceedings. The announcement has been scheduled for November 27, owing to the fact that Khan will have to obtain Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s permission before the series is finalised.
SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) has shown interest in hosting the series, with the R Premadasa Stadium in Khettarama and Kandy in Pallekele as the chosen venues. The rival countries will play 3 ODIs and 2 T20Is, according to sources.
Since Pakistan adopted UAE as their cricket home in 2009, this is the first time that a Tes-playing nation has refused to play in the Middle-Eastern country. The series is reportedly scheduled to start on 20th December, 2015 and carry on till 3rd January, 2016. The Indian team will have a month’s time in hand to prepare for the tournament, following their ongoing Test series at home against South Africa.
