Sushil To bow Out from Olympics!!!
Yes, the words have come out to be genuine, and India is just going to lose the two-time Olympic medalist of Wrestling for the 2016 Rio De Janeiro event. It will take a time for Sushil to realize the fact that he has already been overtaken by Narsingh Yadav. So finally the dream of winning three consecutive medals just comes to an end for this young man.
The Delhi High Court observed that though Sushil Kumar is a “legendary” wrestler, WFI’s contention that Narsingh Pancham Yadav is better in 74 kg category cannot be termed as “unreasonable.”
The debated between the Sushil-Narsingh had even reached to the core steps of the Delhi High Court! Though everyone had kept it in mind that Sushil is an “Unremarkable” wrestler, The WFI had inched towards Narsingh Pancham Yadav in the 74 Kg Category of Wrestling. maybe the point of not participating in any trials before the Olympic matches would have been the key to go for it. In the end, it has to be said that the right decision has been taken. What is of concern is the time required.
Weighing in on the controversy, former India Davis Cup captain Jaideep Mukherjea, had told ESPN:
“Narsingh Yadav won the bronze medal at the Wrestling Worlds in September 2015. Sushil moved the court in May 2016, and the verdict has been received today — June 6, 2016.“
That is a total of 270 days between the two events!
In an interaction after Narsingh’s arrival in India with the World’s bronze medal, the only question was who would represent India in the Olympics. Narsingh was visibly uneasy about answering the question, but it was evident he was hoping the WFI would take a decision one way or another.
Now that qualification to Rio is secured, it is up to the federation to decide who will represent our country in Rio. It is their decision. I am going to ensure that my fitness and form are right up there. It’s been the case all these years that whoever secured the Olympic berth, they represent the country. I am hoping that policy is followed this year as well.
And that was 264 days ago. Clearly, it’s not an issue that came out of nowhere.
The issue just got highlighted when Media came up into an interaction after Narsingh’s arrival in India with the World’s bronze medal! It was clear that he was surely going to represent in the Olympics. But where was sushil then? It was the clear sight of disbelief as Sushil had to bow out of the Olympics. However, we all were hoping that the WFI would be looking into the matter!
However who is actually in the fault of the whole concept? Well, it must have been only the WFI who was casual about the entry of Sushil! But the issue had just risen up when the concept of trials was taken into the frame! There was also a big clash between him and the federation to stop sponsoring his training! However from the part of WFI, this was just to be cleared out!
“Otherwise, I would not have been working so hard,” he said.
Only time will tell. But for now, let’s hope Narsingh can put his best foot forward and hopefully, with Sushil’s best wishes.
