Sushma Swaraj Assures Admission Into School For A Pakistani Hindu girl

On Saturday, External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj stepped in and assured admission for a Pakistani Hindu girl into a Delhi School. The girl named Madhu (16) had come to India with her family due to the religious persecution in Pakistan’s Punjab. They fled from Pakistan in a hurry that Madhu’s necessary documents like school leaving certificate, was left behind. The school in India has refused to enroll her without those documents.

Her uncle Jevar reported to The Hindu “In school, she felt unsafe and humiliated. Being a Hindu, she was not allowed to use glass to drink water and would rather use her hands for the purpose. Her teachers maintained distance from her, When we went to the government school in Bhatti mines, they told us she was ‘overage’. Then they asked for a transfer certificate, but we had left the same in Pakistan. The school then asked for her Aadhaar card. When we got that made, they asked for some other documents as she is still a Pakistani refugee,”.

On Friday, Sushma Swaraj saw her tagged in a tweet, explaining how a Pakistani Hindu girl is struggling to gain admission into a Delhi school. For which Sushma Swaraj replied “Madhu – I have read this story in the media. Pl see me at my residence tomorrow evening at 7 pm,”

After her meeting with Sushma Swaraj, Madhu said to ANI “She spoke to Arvind Kejriwal ji regarding the same. Hope I will get admission in school at the earliest,” She further added “I was struggling to get admission in school as I didn’t have an Aadhaar Card. The External Affairs Minister assured me that my admission will be done on Monday,”.

The NGO that helped Madhu and Her Family to move out of Pakistan has written to the Delhi chief minister for helping the girl and her family to settle. But it seems like they received no response from the Government so far.

This isn’t the first time that Sushma Swaraj is helping a Pakistani immigrant. Earlier this year in May, Swaraj helped 17-year old girl Mashal Maheshwari for getting admission in a medical college. And on that occasion too Swaraj offered help in her tweet. Where she tweeted “Mashal – Don’t be disappointed my child. I will personally take up your case for admission in a medical college,”.
