15th August is celebrated as Independence Day in India. 15th August 1947, India became an independent nation.

It is celebrated as a holiday all over the country to remember this day and pay homage to the great leaders who sacrificed their lives for us to live a free life.

India became an independent nation after struggling for 100 years. Many great leaders sacrificed their lives for us to lead a free life.

The first struggle began in 1857 with the Sepoy Mutiny in Meerut. Later, in the 20th century, the Indian National Congress and other political organizations, under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, launched a countrywide independence movement.

India attained its liberty at midnight between August 14 and August 15, 1947.

On 15th August,1947 India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru hoisted the Indian National Flag as it marked the start of a new era after the British Colonial Rule that took place in India for more than 200 years.
