The Virgins - Short Film Review

Sushant (Divyendu Sharma) invites his fiancée Anika (Pia Bajpai) to a restaurant to pop the “R u a V?” question. The awkward meeting ends in Anika admitting to having a boyfriend while Sushant’s face gives away his virginity status.

Both of them then proceed to rectify their assumed fallacies. Sushant is desperate to lose his virginity to prove he is a real man while Anika is equally desperate to fake that she is one. The result is a smart and crisp “sleep-com” which manages to leave a smile on your face.

Divyendu Sharma, after ‘Pyar ka Punchnama’ (2011), impresses with another good performance. He is absolutely natural. Pia Bajpai does equally well as Anika and performs effortlessly. Akshay Oberoi, in a brief role, as Pia’s boyfriend is earnest. [ Read: Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) Movie Review]

The production values are of high standards. There is even a song in the closing credits, very rare for a short.

At the end of it, the short reminded me of the bus sequence in SRK starrer ‘Dil Se..’ (1998) where Preity Zinta enquires if he is a virgin.
